Since Mormons are allowed to have civil proceedings plus a temple sealing in countries that require it, it's clearly not a question of doctrine to forbid the same thing in the US. I read some of the discussion of this on the fMh and ClobberBlog posts I linked, and I agree with the commenter who said she'd have a destination wedding in a country that allows a separate civil ceremony. I completely agree with your position. Since Mormons are allowed to have civil proceedings plus a temple sealing in countries that require it, it’s clearly not a question of doctrine to forbid the same thing in the US. I read some of the discussion of this on the fMh and ClobberBlog posts I linked, and I agree with the commenter who said she’d have a destination wedding in a country that allows a separate civil ceremony.
